About The Founder

Bettina Marks — Artist. Storyteller. Visionary.

Whether she is writing, directing, performing, designing — or simply observing the world — Bettina Marks is always telling a story.

Early Artistic Roots

Born in New York City, Bettina began her career as a painter and designer. She studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and later at the University of California, San Diego. Her fine art has been exhibited at institutions including the Hudson River Museum, Franklin Furnace Archives, and the Mandeville Art Center Gallery at UC San Diego. She has also shared her expertise as an educator, teaching at Parsons School of Design, Hofstra University, Nassau Community College, and Queensborough Community College.

The Birth of a Design Career

While working in the Asian Art Department of the Brooklyn Museum, Bettina began painting on silk, drawing inspiration from Asian art traditions and folk imagery. Taking a bold step, she left to paint full-time and soon began selling her designs to Seventh Avenue’s most trend-forward designers. Shortly after, she launched Bettina Marks Collections.

Industry Impact

Many of her early designs appeared in the collections of emerging designers, including Adrienne Vittadini. Her iconic “graffiti print” was featured in every window at Macy’s Herald Square and became so successful that it carried through multiple seasons and markets.

Bettina later expanded her work across fashion, home, and lifestyle products. She developed design stories for Pottery Barn, helped launch Sakura’s fashion-forward dinnerware collections, and later entered a licensing partnership with Robinson Home Furnishings (formerly Oneida Ltd.). Today, the studio maintains an archive of more than 2,000 original print designs — a rich source of artwork that continues to inspire new collections and is available for licensing partnerships with retailers and manufacturers.

Her designs have appeared across a wide range of products — from apparel and home goods to stationery and accessories — through partnerships with companies such as Tantex/Raytex Corporation, WestPoint Stevens, Hanover Direct, and Brittanica Home Fashions.

Her client list has included Danskin, Echo, Gottex, Skinit, Jones New York, Liz Claiborne, Nautica, Dana Buchman, Ralph Lauren, Gap, and Tommy Hilfiger.

A Creative Philosophy

Throughout her career, Bettina’s work has always been guided by curiosity, storytelling, and a deep appreciation for art, culture, and design.

Today, she continues to bring that same creative spirit to every project, blending artistic vision with thoughtful design to create pieces that feel both timeless and personal.
